Wir empfehlen Ihnen grundsätzlich, den Varroabefall aller Bienenvölker zu messen.

Maßnahmen

Bei Völkern, deren Befallsgrad wesentlich über dem für die jeweilige Kalenderwoche gültigen Wert liegt (in der unten stehenden Tabelle und Grafik rot dargestellt), sollten präventive Maßnahmen ergriffen werden.

The data in this graph shows Varroa infestation levels measured by beekeepers at secific dates in monitoring beehives scattered throughout Austria. Based on this data, predictions are made and alerts are isssued via e-mail and social media.

What does the red (dotted) line mean?
The red line shows the threshold infestation level above which honeybee colonies may be damaged.
What does the black (continuous) line mean?
The black line shows the average infestation level of all available data.
What does the blue (broken) line mean?
The blue line shows the average infestation level of the selected region.
What does the green area mean?
The green area shows the result of the user-defined prediction.
What do the other coloured areas mean?
The coloured areas show the prediction.
What does the vertical black (broken) line mean?
The vertical black lines show the timing of Varroa treatments.

What is a median?

The median is the value separating the higher half of a list of data ordered by size (e.g. mite infestation) from the lower half. For a data set, it may be thought of as the "middle" value. For example in the set of values 4, 1, 37,2,1, the number 2 is the median, because it is exactly in the middle of the ordered series 1, 1, 2, 4, 37

What does a prediction tell us?
A prediction basically tells us what would happen if the mite popultaion in a honeybee colony conntinued to grow at the current rate and under the current assumptions (e.g. estimated size of mite population, brood rearing, Varroa control measures,...). The prediction does not consider unpredictable events, like a strong immigration of mites from neihgbouring hives or unusual weather conditions. You have the possibility to change a few parameters in order to adjust the predictions to your local conditions or management practices. Please note that a prediction is no substitute for a regular diagnosis of mite infestation in your colonies.
Why do predictions from different regions yield different results?
We assume that mite infections are different in various regions due to diferences in environmental conditions (e.g. weather, hive density, overall infestation,...). If you choose a region from the list, your prediction will be based on the parameters calculated for this particular region. In this way you get a prediction, which is specific for your region.
